[Quotes](https://kb.kudurrustone.com/quotes?hsLang=en) # Building Out a Quote Line ## The build-out records what a quote line will cost you to deliver, kept separately from what you are charging the client for it. Every line carries four cost types (Tasks, Equipment, Expenses and Misc) The quote shows what you have built out against what you have quoted, line by line. Nothing you enter here changes the price on the quote. ### Where This Is Done Open a quote and expand a line item. Beneath the line's own fields you will find one of two things. A line with nothing built out shows a single button reading "+ Build out this line: add tasks, equipment or expenses". It does not appear on the quote PDF and it is not added into the quote total. What the client pays still comes from the line's own quantity, unit price and total. What it does drive is the Built figure. Built is the four cost types added together. Quoted is the line total. Margin is quoted minus built, so a positive margin means you are charging more than the line costs you.  Deleting a quote line removes everything built out on it, across all four cost types. ### How to Build Out a Quote Line 1. Open the quote and expand the line you want to cost. 2. Click "+ Build out this line: add tasks, equipment or expenses" if you see it. Otherwise click the sub-tab you want. Tasks opens first either way. 3. For tasks, the task list loads on its own. Use the + Add Task and + Add Task Group buttons under the table. 4. For equipment, click the Equipment sub-tab. The last row of the table is always blank and that blank row is how you add. Choose a piece of equipment in it. 5. Fill in Notes, Qty and Rate as needed. If you leave Rate empty on a new row, Kudurru Stone uses the rate from your Equipment list and fills the box in for you. 6. Move to the next box. Rows save themselves as you leave each field, so there is no Save button inside the pane. A fresh blank row appears underneath, ready for the next item. 7. For expenses, click the Expenses sub-tab and type a description in the last row. Type is optional. Qty is optional as well, and leaving it blank means the Amount is the whole cost rather than a unit price. 8. For anything that fits neither list, use the Misc sub-tab. It is free form: a description, a quantity and a unit price. 9. To take a row out, click Remove at the right of it. 10. Watch the figures as you go. Each sub-tab shows its own subtotal, each pane has its own total row, and the Built, quoted and margin figures beside the tabs update as you type. 11. A row with nothing chosen is not saved. | | Rate (Equipment) | Left blank on a new row, the Equipment list's rate is used instead. | | Notes (Equipment) | Optional free text, up to 1000 characters. | | Type (Expenses) | Optional. "No type" is a valid choice. | | Description (Expenses) | Optional free text, up to 1000 characters. | | Qty (Expenses) | Optional. Leave it blank and Amount is treated as the whole cost. | | Amount (Expenses) | The unit amount when a quantity is given, the whole cost when it is not. | | Description (Misc) | Typing one is what creates the row. There is no list behind Misc. | | Qty and Unit price | Numbers only. A blank counts as nothing entered, not as zero. | | Total | Calculated by Kudurru Stone from the quantity and the rate. It cannot be typed in. | ### Who Can Add to the Equipment and Expense Type Lists The Equipment and Type pickers carry an \ option at the top for users who are allowed to add to those lists. Choosing it opens a small window - Add Equipment or Add Expense Type - so you can create the missing item without leaving the quote. Equipment asks for a rate as well as a name, because the build-out records the rate when the row is added and equipment created without one would price at zero. Saving returns you to the row with the new item already selected. If the name you type already exists, Kudurru Stone selects the existing item rather than creating a duplicate. This option is limited to administrators. Users without it see the picker without an \ option and need someone to add the item from the Equipment or Expense Types settings screen. A plus figure is money you are making on the line, and only an amber figure means the line costs more than it charges. - Use Misc for anything that does not belong in your Equipment list or your expense categories. Adding a one-off to those lists just to record it makes them harder to use later. - If a rate shows a "now X" note, the equipment has been re-priced since this row was added. The quote keeps the old rate on purpose. Retype the rate if you want the current one. - Excluding a line leaves its build-out in place and stops counting it.
