Custom Fields
Custom fields let you capture information on projects that Kudurru Stone doesn't have a built-in field for — permit numbers, inspector names, job site codes, PO references, or anything else specific to how your business tracks work. You define the fields once in Settings, then add and fill them in on individual projects as needed.
How It Works
Custom fields are a two-step system. First, an admin creates a field definition in Settings — this is just a name, like "Permit Number." That definition then becomes available to add to any project. On the project, a user adds the field and types in the value. Different projects can have different custom fields, and not every project needs every field.
Managing Field Definitions (Settings)
Navigate to Settings → Custom Fields to manage your field definitions.
Adding a Field Definition
Click New. Enter a field name (max 50 characters) and save. The field is now available to add to any project.
Editing a Field Definition
Click the edit icon next to a field. Update the name and save. The new name appears on all projects where the field is currently in use.
Deleting a Field Definition
Click the delete icon next to a field. Kudurru checks whether the field is in use on any projects before allowing deletion.
- If the field is in use: deletion is blocked and Kudurru lists the project numbers where it appears. Remove the field from those projects first, then return here to delete the definition.
- If not in use: confirm the deletion. This is permanent.
Using Custom Fields on a Project
Open a project and scroll to the Custom Fields section on the project edit page.
Adding a Custom Field to a Project
Click Add Field. A dropdown lists all custom field definitions available for your account. Select the one you want and save. The field appears in the custom fields table with an empty value.
If a field you need is not in the list, an account admin can create it under Settings → Custom Fields.
Entering or Editing a Value
Click into the value field next to any custom field and type the value. Kudurru saves automatically when you leave the field — there is no separate save button.
All custom field values are stored as plain text. Kudurru does not validate or format the value, so you can enter numbers, dates, or any text your workflow requires.
Removing a Custom Field from a Project
If you need to remove a custom field from a specific project, contact your account admin. Field removal from individual projects is handled through the admin settings.
Tips
- Agree on a standard set of custom fields before your team starts using them. Having ten variations of "PO Number" as separate field definitions creates clutter.
- Field names should match the label your team already uses for the information — the value entry is freeform, so the name is the only guide users have.
- Custom fields are project-only. They are not available on quotes, tasks, or client records.
- If you find yourself adding the same custom field to every project, that is a signal to request it as a built-in field for your workflow.
