[Projects](https://kb.kudurrustone.com/projects?hsLang=en) # Project Tags ## Project Tags are colored labels that help your team organize projects and identify important information at a glance. Use tags such as “Waiting on Customer”, “Overbudget”, "Needs Attention" or “Priority” to describe what matters about a project. You can assign multiple tags to a project, update them through QuickView, and display or filter them on your dashboards. Open the **Settings** gear menu and select **Project Tags**. 2. Click **Add Tag**. 3. Enter a **Tag Name** and choose a **Color**. 4. Save the tag. Tag names are required, can contain up to 50 characters, and must be different from other active tag names. On the Project Tags screen, you can also: - Click the **pencil icon** to edit a tag’s name or color. - Drag a row’s **handle** to change the order tags appear in the selection list. - Check **In Use** to see how many projects and quotes have that tag. **Note:** Editing a tag’s name or color updates it everywhere the tag is already used. ![](https://kb.kudurrustone.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Sep-14-2026-06-50-50-0978-PM.png?width=855&height=286&name=image-png-Sep-14-2026-06-50-50-0978-PM.png) ###  Add tags to a project 1. Open the project’s **Edit** screen. 2. Locate the **Project Management** section. 3. In the **Tags** field, click **Add a tag…** and select a tag. 4. Repeat to add more tags. 5. Drag the selected tags to arrange their order. 6. Click **Save** to save the project. To remove a tag from the project, click the **×** on its label and save. This removes it from that project only; the tag remains available for other projects. To make tags available in QuickView: 1. On the Project Dashboard toolbar, click **Configure QuickView**. 2. Add **Project Tags** to the selected fields. 3. Save the configuration. Click **Edit Columns**. 2. Add **Project Tags** to the selected columns. 3. Save your changes. The column displays up to three colored tag labels. If a project has more tags, an additional count appears. Hover over the cell to see all the tag names. Click **Edit Filter** on the Project Dashboard. 2. Add **Project Tags** to the filter fields. 3. Select the tag or tags you want to filter by. 4. Apply your filters. For example, select “Waiting on Customer” when reviewing projects that need customer follow-up. ### Color dashboard rows by the first tag You can use a project’s first tag to color its row on the Project Dashboard. 1. Open the dashboard view settings. 2. Set **Color Rows By** to **First Tag**. 3. Save the view. The row uses the color of the first tag assigned to that project. To change which tag provides the color, reorder the tags in Project Edit or QuickView and save. **The order on the project controls the row color.** Changing the tag order in Settings only changes the selection list. Projects without tags remain uncolored, and each tag label keeps its own color. ### Retire or restore a tag When a tag is no longer needed, you can retire it: 1. Open **Settings → Project Tags**. 2. Click the red **×** on the tag’s row. 3. Review the confirmation and click **Retire Tag**. Retiring hides the tag from dashboard displays and tag pickers while preserving its existing project and quote assignments. To bring it back, find it in the **Retired Tags** section and click **Restore**.
