Linking a Project to Dropbox
Once your company Dropbox account is connected, each project can be linked to a specific Dropbox folder. The linked folder's contents appear on the project's Files tab, where your team can browse, upload, and download files. This article covers linking at the project level; connecting the company account is covered separately.
Before you start
A project can only be linked after an administrator has connected your company Dropbox account on the Dropbox Integration settings page. If the account is not connected, the project's Dropbox section shows a prompt to connect Dropbox instead of a folder. See Dropbox Integration: Connecting Your Company Account.
Overview
Linking ties one project to one Dropbox folder. After linking, the Files tab lists that folder's contents and gives your team tools to browse subfolders, create folders, upload files, and download files. The files live in Dropbox, so changes made directly in Dropbox appear here, and anything uploaded here appears in your Dropbox account.
How to link a project to a folder
- Open the project and go to its Files tab, then the Dropbox section.
- With the company account connected and the project not yet linked, select Link to Dropbox folder.
- In the folder picker, browse to the folder you want, or create a new one. Kudurru Stone suggests a folder name based on the project number and name.
- Select the folder to link it. The Dropbox section then lists that folder's contents.
You must link to a specific folder. The Dropbox account root cannot be linked, and if your company has set a Projects parent folder, the folder you pick must be inside it.
Working with project files
Once a project is linked, the Dropbox section on the Files tab supports the following actions.
| Action | Notes |
|---|---|
| Browse | Click a folder to open it; use the breadcrumb trail to move back up. Browsing stays within the linked folder. |
| New Folder | Create a subfolder inside the folder you are currently viewing. |
| Upload | Upload a file into the current folder. Maximum size is about 28 MB per file. |
| Download | Download a file through a short-lived Dropbox link. |
How to unlink a project
To disconnect a project from its folder, open the project's Dropbox section and select Unlink. You are asked to confirm.
Unlinking only removes the connection between the project and the folder. The Dropbox folder and all of its files are left in place and are not deleted. You can link the project to a folder again at any time.
Deletion and safety guards
Kudurru Stone protects your Dropbox content when you link and unlink:
- Unlinking a project leaves the Dropbox folder and its files untouched — only the link is removed.
- The account root cannot be linked, so a project is always tied to a specific folder rather than your entire Dropbox.
- If a Projects parent folder is configured company-wide, projects can only be linked to folders inside it.
Tips
- Accept the suggested folder name (project number and name) when creating a new project folder to keep folders easy to find later.
- Keep uploads under about 28 MB; larger files are rejected. Add very large files directly in Dropbox.
- Because files live in Dropbox, renaming or moving the linked folder in Dropbox is reflected in Kudurru Stone — coordinate folder changes with your team.
- If the Dropbox section prompts you to connect Dropbox, ask an administrator to connect the company account before linking the project.
